About Me and How I Work

“Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” - Howard Thurman

MarthaI’ve been working in the mental health field since 1992 and received my Master’s degree in 1996 from The California Institute of Integral Studies. I opened my private practice in January of 2000. Psychotherapy was a second career for me. My undergraduate degree is in Theatre Arts/Technical Theatre, and I was a Professional Stage Manager for most of my 20’s. Working closely with actors and artists and the creative process, along with a deep exploration of myself through psychotherapy and the healing that I found there, led me to this place. My work embraces the connection between mind, body and spirit, and is influenced by many different schools of thought including Psychodynamic, Existential and Transpersonal theories.

I have a warm, open and interactive personal style. Each therapeutic relationship is different depending on the client’s needs. I strive to give you the space to explore yourself without interfering with your process, while making sure you aren’t in that process alone. I am right there with you, sometimes asking questions and making comments and sometimes sitting with you in the silent spaces necessary for deep exploration.

Working together we will explore how you came to be who you are and how you can become the person you want to be.
